Located in the north of Spain, this small coastal region is know for its cold weather, green vegetation, tasty seafood restaurants, and its rich medieval history. The capitol is Oviedo and the largest city is Gijon. There are many cows and sheep in this region, as it provides most of the dairy for the country. The famous national park "Picos de Europa" is located here, with beautiful mountains that go as high as 8500 feet. There are plenty of beaches and little fishing villages throughout the entire coast. The city of Oviedo offers the amazing cathedral of "San Salvador", a must see when visiting this region. Many resources claim that the bag pipe originated in this region, and today, its still a huge part of the Asturian culture. The hearty plate of "Fabada", which is a famous bean stew, originated here and is always accompanied by the local cider.
