These islands are located in the Atlantic ocean about 60 miles from Africa. There are 10 islands that make up the Canary islands: Tenerife, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, La Palma, La Gomera, El Hierro, Alegranza, La Graciosa, and Montana Clara. There are (2) capitols, Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The island of Tenerife gets the most tourism of all the islands, as it offers the "Teide National Park", with some of the highest mountains in Spain and the third largest volcano in the world. There are plenty of beautiful cathedrals, tropical beaches, count-less beach resorts, and waterfront restaurants. These islands were used during the 15th century, when Spanish explorers would stop to eat, drink, and rest before making their journeys to America, and when returning to Spain.
