As the largest region in Spain, this medieval high-altitude region has (9) provinces: Avila, Burgos, Leon, Palencia, Salamanca, Segovia, Soria, Vallalodid and Zamora, with Burgos and Vallalodid as the capitol. This is the land of roasted suckling pig, famous for being cut with a plate as the meat is so tender, mostly around Segovia. Other foods that are known from here are Chorizo, Lamb Chops, and Queso de Zamora. The famous wine regions of Ribera Del Duero and Toro are located here, offering some of the most popular wineries in Spain, as well as some of the highest quality wines in the world. Castilla y Leon also offers more Castles, Cathedrals and Palaces, than any other region in the country. In every province, there are endless medieval villages offering amazing architecture and medieval cobblestone streets. Some of the best Universities in the country can be found near Salamanca. Don’t miss the Roman Aqueduct in Segovia, a must see.
