Located on the Mediterranean coast below the region of "Comunitat Valencia", this region is home to most of the fruits and vegetables that Spaniards and most Europeans eat. The capitol is the city of Murcia, where about 1/3 the population of the region lives. The city of Cartagena is home to Spain’s Navy force, as well as some beautiful beaches, boardwalks and seafood restaurants. There are a lot of historic castles and cathedrals, so make sure you visit the town of Lorca, as they offer one of the most beautiful castles in the region. Wine has been made and consumed here for thousands of years, but since around the late 90's, the new generation of winemakers have taken over and have started to make high quality wines from the old Monastrell vineyards. Now the wine regions of Jumilla and Yecla are producing mind-blowing wines at prices so low, you will surely make them your go-to everyday wines.
